Jill Maglio

Jill Maglio is the founder of Holistic Circus Therapy, a registered and accredited private practice that combines Occupational Therapy with circus arts to address the unique health and well-being needs of individuals and communities.

Jill brought Holistic Circus Therapy to the United States in 2009, after 5 years of research and study in Melbourne, Australia, Europe, and South East Asia.  Jill's circus occupational therapy projects initially focused on the effects of a circus skills program on young people’s acquisition of “life skills.”  Upon completion of a Master of Occupational Therapy Practice from La Trobe University in 2007, Jill continued to investigate the effects of circus on health and well-being while working with children with cerebral palsy at the Brain Research Institute.

Jill is involved with circus intervention research and is published in the Australian Journal of Occupational Therapy for her innovative work on community circus and life skills acquisition.

In addition to Jill’s accredited background and ongoing practices in Occupation Therapy, she also currently works as a skilled performer, social circus educator, project manager and program evaluator.

Jill has international experience directing, producing, and performing art pieces that combine multiple disciplines of dance, circus, and theatre with young people of varying abilities and social pressures.

Jill currently focuses her practice on legitimizing circus as an effective intervention that mirrors and supports evidenced based practices used within the occupational therapy profession to increase physical and cognitive capacities as well as strengthen emotional and social health.

Jill has pioneered the use of circus within the field of occupational therapy and has created a therapy that is highly effective and beneficial to a wide population.

Jill holds a Master of Occupational Therapy Practice degree from La Trobe University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
